The Gameplay

The call break multiplayer game is a 4-player card game played with a single deck of 52 cards with Spades as the trump. Each game consists of five rounds where each player calls the possible winnable hands/tricks. At the beginning of the game, the dealer distributes 13 cards to each player. The objective of the game is to win the maximum number of tricks ( at least win an equivalent number of tricks as called at the beginning of the game). The players play the game as per predefined rules of the game and try to win tricks in every round. At the end of every round, the players’ score is evaluated based on the number of tricks won. After the end of five rounds, the player with the highest score is declared the winner of the game.

Rules to Play the Call Break Game

The call break game rules are fundamental and easy to understand. Although the rules may have slight variations in different regions. you should follow the below rules to play the game on MPL:

  • 13 cards are distributed to each player at the beginning of the game.
  • Spade is the default trump suit in the game.
  • Each player has to call the possible winnable tricks (minimum of 2 per player).
  • If a player doesn’t receive at least one trump card, the cards will be shuffled and redistributed.
  • All players must play a card of the same suit if they have the cards.
  • If a player doesn’t have a card of the suit, he/she is not obligated to play a trump card and can play any other card.

How to play Call Break?

The call break game starts when 4 players join the table. The dealer distributes 13 cards to each player, and every player calls the number of tricks he/she will be made. The player on the dealer’s right makes the first move, followed by other players in a counter-clockwise direction. The first player that makes a move can play any card of choice, but the other players have to play cards of the same suit following that player. If a player doesn’t have a card of that suit, that player can either play any other card or a trump card.

The player with the highest-value card wins the trick unless a player uses a trump card. If any players have used a trump card, the player with the higher value of the trump card wins the trick. The round is completed when no cards are left with any player. Points are evaluated at the end of each round and the final score at the end of 5 rounds. The player with the highest score at the end of 5 rounds wins the game.

Here are a few strategies to maximize your chances of winning in call break.

How are points evaluated in Call Break?

The points system in call break is pretty straightforward. Points are evaluated at the end of each round. Assuming a player calls 5 tricks when the cards are distributed, the points given in different situations  will be as follows:

  • If the player wins 5 tricks, the player will get 5 points.
  • If the player wins more than 5 tricks, the points will increase by 0.1. For instance, if the player wins 6 tricks, the points will be 5.1, and if he/she wins 7 tricks, the points will be 5.2.
  • If the player wins less than 5 tricks, the points will be minus 5.

A player can call a maximum of 13 tricks when the game starts; however, the maximum points given will be 8. Therefore, if the player calls 8 or more tricks, the score will be 8 if the player wins 8 or more tricks. However, if the player doesn’t win at least 8 tricks, the score will be reduced by 8.

As you play a few games, you will learn how to decide which card to play and how to use the trump cards wisely. The game requires skills and strategies that you will eventually gain with practice.
