Two Indian Super League giants who have been a part of India’s top-tier football tournament since its beginning in 2014, Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC share a lengthy rivalry. Over the years, the South Indian clubs have had a topsy-turvy run in the league with two league titles won by a super successful Chennaiyin FC. Kerala Blasters, on the other hand, have come close to clinching the title on multiple occasions but still remain trophyless after seven ISL seasons.
Surprisingly, despite Chennaiyin FC winning two Indian Super League titles, the Marina Machans haven’t managed to completely dominate Kerala in the head-to-head.
Chennaiyin FC vs Kerala Blasters Head-to-Head
Teams | Match Played | Won | Lost | Draw |
Chennaiyin FC | 16 | 6 | 3 | 7 |
Kerala Blasters FC | 16 | 3 | 6 | 7 |
Two-time ISL winners, Chennaiyin best run against the Tuskers came during the inaugural season when they had done a double against Kerala Blasters FC, a feat they couldn’t replicate until the ISL 2019-20 season. The Blasters have never managed to do a double over Chennai in ISL, but in all three of their wins, the Tuskers have scored three goals.
Interestingly, Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters are also involved in the third-highest goal-scoring game in ISL. It took place in the ISL 2019-20 season when Chennai beat Kerala 3-6 away from home. This mammoth scoreline is topped by two Odisha FC vs SC East Bengal clashes, where the total goals scored were 10 and 11.

Chennaiyin FC vs Kerala Blasters: Top Performers
Bartholomew Ogbeche (Kerala Blasters): 4 goals
Former Kerala Blasters striker Bartholomew Ogbeche’s favourite opponent happens to be Chennaiyin FC. The centre-forward has scored four goals against the Marina Machans while playing for Kerala Blasters, which includes a hat-trick in the Tuskers’ 3-6 loss in the 2019-20 season. The Nigerian has scored five more goals against Chennai while playing for NorthEast United and Mumbai City FC.
Nerijus Valskis (Chennaiyin FC): 3 goals, 2 assists
Like Ogbecche, Chennaiyin had their ISL top scorer Nerijus Valskis scoring in the high-octane derby. The Lithuanian striker has an impressive record against the Tuskers. He has scored three goals and provided two assists against them while playing for the Marina Machans. While for Jamshedpur FC, he added two more last season.
With the emergence of FC Goa, NEUFC, Mumbai City FC and more, Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters have lost their sting in recent seasons. However, history is evident they are always one good run away from turning the tables.
When will Chennaiyin FC face Kerala Blasters FC next?
Aiming to bounce from a forgettable ISL 2020-21 season, Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters will next face each other on December 22, 2021, at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Goa.
