What are the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2024 venues?
The 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup, which is the ninth edition, will commence on 2 June 2024 in Grand Prairie and the final will be played in Barbados on 29 June 2024. In all, the event will be held in nine venues. Here’s a bit about each of the venues of the tournament.
Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas
The Grand Prairie Stadium is one of the newer venues in the USA founded in 2020. It is situated in Grand Prairie, just outside of Dallas. The stadium can hold a total of 7000 people. This venue has become quite popular in recent times with the Major League Cricket being hosted here. At the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, four matches will be played here. India will not be playing a game at this venue.
Providence Stadium, Guyana
Providence Stadium is located around nine kilometers south of Guyana’s capital, Georgetown. The stadium was built for the 2007 ODI World Cup and it can house 15000 fans. There is a grass mound where 4000 people can sit as well. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian side will not play a game in Providence as well. The stadium is scheduled to host five games at the T20 World Cup 2024.
Kensington Oval, Barbados
The Kensington Oval is a heritage site for the West Indies and the public. It was built in 1871 and is one of the most impressive grounds in the Caribbean. In 2005, it was demolished and the capacity for increased from 12500 to 28000. It is no surprise that it will host the most matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 (nine), which includes the final.
Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York
The first stadium to be ever built in the New York state, the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium was built in record time to be ready for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. It is a grand stadium, which can house close to 34000 people, and was built in hardly five months. The stadium will host as many as eight games at the World Cup which includes the blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash on June 9, 2024.
Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua
The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium was opened in February 2007 for the ODI World Cup. It is located in Antigua and Barbuda. A total of 10000 can sit inside the stadium but the capacity can be doubled with some temporary seating in place. Eight matches will be played at this venue, which includes four matches of the Super 8. India will not play a group stage game here.
Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill
The Central Broward Stadium is located in Lauderhill in Florida and was built in 2007. A total of 20000 people can sit inside the stadium. It is one of the first stadiums to be built in the USA. A lot of the teams when they visit West Indies, play a game at this venue. India have played a lot of the games here in recent times. At the 2024 men’s T20 World Cup, four matches will be played at this venue.
Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba
The Brian Lara Stadium is a multipurpose stadium located in Tarouba, which is in Trinidad and Tobago. The stadium is named after Brian Lara, the most famous cricketer from the region. The stadium was built in 2007 but the construction was only completed in 2017. A total of five matches will be played at the ground in 2024 T20 World Cup, which includes the semi-final.
Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown
The Arnos Vale Ground is a stadium located in Anros Vale in Kingstown. It can hold approximately 18000 people and is used to play both football and cricket. It is a historical ground, and hosted its first game all the way back in 1981. The stadium will host five matches at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. It does not include an India group game, but two matches of the Super 8s will be played here.
Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, St Lucia
Named after two-time T20 World Cup-winning captain Daren Sammy, the ground is located in Gros Islet in St Lucia. It is a popular destination for a lot of the teams that visit the Caribbean islands to play cricket. The stadium was first built in 2002 and was originally known as Beausejour Cricket Ground. In 2016, the name was changed to Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium to honour the champion cricketer. Six matches of the T20 World cup be played here which includes three Super 8 fixtures.
