Switzerland will host Portugal in a UEFA Nations League match in Geneva.
Switzerland lost to Spain in the last match as Pablo Sarabia scored the solitary goal in the match. The Swiss have now have lost all their Nations League matches and struggling for their existence.
They are fourth placed in their group and could feel the heat as they are yet to register a point in the competition.
They have been under tremendous pressure and have not registered a win in their last five matches in all competitions having booked a World cup place this Nations League could serve as their stage for the preparation.
But loopholes have emerged and they will surely work on their tactics and strategy before the footballing extravaganza pans out later this year. They have only won once at their home in the Nations League and need to fancy their chances in against the Portuguese.
Portugal took the harder way to qualify for the World Cup as they defeated North Macedonia in the playoffs final. Portugal dominated in their win over the Czech Republic but could not convert their dominance into goals.
Two strikes from Goncalo Guedes and Joao Cancelo secured a comfortable 2-0 win over their opponent as they have been cruising past in the last few matches.
They are two point ahead at the top of the Spanish side and could cement their position with a victory against Switzerland. Cristiano Ronaldo’s side is yet to lose an away match in the Nations League and Switzerland could pose a little threat given their current run of form.
Ronaldo is desperate to make his final playing days count as the Portuguese superstar could bid good bye to international football after the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
They haven’t lost a single time in the past five matches and Ronaldo scored a brace and assisted one as his country thumped Switzerland 4-0 in the reverse fixture.
